Skype stabilises in time for Christmas

VoIP service Skype, which was stricken by problems on Wednesday, is now reported to be running normally for audio and video calls, with user volumes approaching their regular levels.

The company says the problem is still being analysed but was not caused by a malicious attack. As compensation for the disruption, Skype Pay As You Go and Pre-Pay users will receive a Skype Credit voucher via email. Subscribers will be credited with a week's extra subscription service.
