Dual-SIM Android smartphones announced by Samsung

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos Samsung Electronics has announced two new additions to its Galaxy smartphone series; the Samsung GALAXY Y DUOS and the Samsung GALAXY Y Pro DUOS. The ‘Y’ designation means they’re aimed at younger users, while ‘Pro’ indicates a QWERTY keyboard.

Russia will be the first country to see these phones in January 2012 before they’re rolled out to Europe. Both are Android-powered devices and can hold two SIM cards, allowing two separate phone numbers on the same device.

JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said “With the tremendous success of the Dual SIM feature phones, we are now very pleased to be introducing the first Dual SIM smartphones powered by Android. We have been actively exploring this market and are well aware of the need for Dual SIM smartphones. With the GALAXY Y DUOS and the GALAXY Y Pro DUOS, Samsung will be offering more choices for all consumers.”

The GALAXY Y DUOS is less than 12mm deep and has a 3.14-inch touch display. It runs Android v2.3 on a 832MHz processor. Samsung’s GALAXY Y Pro DUOS has a similar spec but offers a 2.6-inch display along with the QWERTY keyboard.
