Picocells and IP technology to provide mobile coverage at sea

Cambridge-based ip.access has announced that its picocell technology is being used to provide mobile phone service on merchant ships. Conventional GSM phones can be used to make calls, which are routed through an on-board picocell and converted into an Internet Protocol data signal that's then sent via satellite. [Press release]
