Social networking is driving the mobile internet

Research company comScore says social networking is driving mobile internet growth across Western Europe, encouraging new users to access the web from their phones. Its research shows that 34% of mobile phone owners are only accessing social media, with mobile social networking growing by 152% from November 2007 to November 2008. The UK has Europe's highest mobile social networking usage at 9% of all mobile phone owners. (The average across Europe is 5%). Other figures from the UK show mobile video watching is down 27% over the last 12 months, while mobile software downloads are up 17% and mobile email usage is up 12%. [Press release]
