Embarrassment for Nokia over 'fake' Lumia 920 video

Nokia has apologised for producing a video that claimed to demonstrate the benefits of optical image stabilisation on its forthcoming Lumia 920 smartphone. The new flagship handset, which will run Windows Phone 8, is capable of reducing or eliminating the effect of movement - which means that photos and videos will appear less blurry than those from other devices.

However, the promotional video wasn’t shot with a Lumia 920.

In a blog post, Nokia said “Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet. We apologize for the confusion we created.”

The Verge drew attention to the issue when it spotted the reflection of a camera crew in the promotional video. Designer Youssef Sarhan has also claimed some of the PureView camera’s promotional photos have been faked as well.

A new video comparing a ‘real’ Lumia 920 with another smartphone has now been published by Nokia.
