Mobile boarding passes being trialled by easyJet in the UK

UK airline easyJet is trialling mobile boarding passes for flights from Stansted, Southend, Manchester, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Nice airports.

Passengers can download their boarding pass to the easyJet app on iPhones or Android devices, with a mobile web app due to be added later this year. The company says checking in with the mobile app takes less than 10 seconds.

Boarding passes are stored offline, which means a network connection isn’t needed when using the apps. The iOS app includes compatibility with Apple’s Passbook service.

Peter Duffy, Marketing Director for easyJet, said “We are really pleased to be trialling mobile boarding passes - we know from passenger feedback that it will be a popular addition to our award-winning app. Building on the success of the app, which is the fastest airline app on the market, mobile boarding passes is the next important step in our aim to make travel easy and affordable. Following a successful trial, we will be working with each of the airports in order to rollout the function across the network. The trial will also be extended to include multiple boarding passes on the same device so that families can all check in using one or a number of mobiles, depending on their preference.”

More than 4.5 million people have downloaded the easyJet app since it was launched in late 2011.
