ZTE turns its mobile operations into an independent unit

Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturer ZTE Corporation has announced a number of organisational changes that are designed to “focus the company on key strategic operations and high-growth business opportunities”.

It says its three key businesses - operators, mobile devices and enterprise - will receive more resources this year, with the company also targeting the emerging market segments of metropolitan public IT systems, new energy technology and the mobile internet.

ZTE Mobile Devices will now operate as an independent unit of the company. It’ll be headed by Zeng Xuezhong, ZTE’s Executive Vice President who was previously in charge of operations in China. He Shiyou, the company’s former head of terminals, will remain as an Executive Director.

Hou Weigui, the chairman of ZTE Corporation, said “In 2014, the company is excited about the opportunities in enterprise and mobile devices, and the organizational changes will strengthen our capabilities in these areas. Telecommunications and technology are intensely competitive industries, and it is vital that we constantly renew ourselves in order to excel.”
