Microsoft announces Office for iPad, plus free Office Mobile apps for iPhone and Android

Microsoft has announced a handful of new and updated mobile applications, including the long-awaited launch of ‘Microsoft Office for iPad’.

This comprises three separate iOS apps - Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iPad - now available in the Apple App Store, along with an update to the OneNote app. The basic apps are free for viewing and presenting files but users need to buy an online ‘Office 365’ subscription if they want to create or edit documents on an Apple iPad.

However, the Office Mobile apps for iPhones and Android smartphones have been made completely free for home users, even when creating or editing documents.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, said “Microsoft is focused on delivering the cloud for everyone, on every device. It’s a unique approach that centers on people - enabling the devices you love, work with the services you love, and in a way that works for IT and developers.”
