Mobile phone insurance scam hits the headlines again

The BBC reports that a mobile phone insurance scam is being investigated by Trading Standards. People who've recently bought a new phone are called and persuaded to take out an insurance deal, although they often end up with either poor cover or no cover at all. But it's not a new problem. The Carphone Warehouse has been warning customers about the fraud for years... and news reports from four years ago tell a very similar story. [BBC News 2009; The Register 2005]
