12% of Comic Relief donations made by text

£7.8 million was raised for this year’s Comic Relief ‘Red Nose Day’ by text message donations; almost 12% of the total £65.7 million raised so far. It was the first time that the total amount went to the charity, because the mobile operators waived their charges – which meant that HM Treasury took no VAT. The text donation lines closed at the end of March. [Source: 160characters.org]
