Smartphone batteries not keeping up with demand

Researchers at Strategy Analytics say mobile phone battery life isn’t keeping up with the increasing demands of today’s handsets.  They’ve calculated that the average time between battery charges for a smartphone user was 3.2 days last year – but that’ll shrink to just 2.48 days by 2015. Web browsing, navigation and social networking are mainly to blame: they consumed 9% of battery life in 2008 but will eat 30% by 2014. Strategy Analytics says improvements in battery technology aren’t happening quickly enough, which means the ‘Energy Gap’ is growing by about 4% per year. [Report]
