Usage of mobile financial applications set to triple in 5 years

2.2 billion mobile phone users are expected to use mobile financial applications every day within the next five years, according to research from the Insight Research Corporation. Its new report, called “The Mobile Phone and Financial Applications Worldwide, 2009-2014”, says the number of users subscribing to certain mobile financial services will treble from 2009 to 2014.  The study looked at:

  • mobile banking applications,
  • mobile stock trading,
  • mobile proximity and retail applications,
  • mobile credit cards,
  • mobile bar coding,
  • mobile peer-to-peer applications,
  • mobile gaming, and
  • mobile gambling.

And talking about Mobile Payments, last week's podcast included a brief discussion about the state of mobile payments in the UK. As a result of the interest, we're now planning a special feature dedicated to mobile payments. A panel of experts will debate the hot issues affecting the evolution of mobile payments in the US and Europe. The podcast will last 30 to 40 minutes and we’re seeking to have 5 or 6 specific questions/subjects to debate. Please contact us to let us know the questions you’d like us to try and answer.
