UK doubled its mobile advertising spend in 2008

The UK spent £28.6 million on mobile advertising in 2008, according to research by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Their study shows that mobile ad spend increased by 99.2% year-on-year. Just over half of the spending was on search advertising, with the remainder on mobile display advertising (which includes banners, text links, sponsored credits and in-game ads). The total UK spending on online advertising hit £3.35 billion last year, accounting for 19.2% of all advertising spend… which means mobile advertising is still only a tiny fraction of the ad market at the moment.
