3 UK to launch £0 monthly contract

Wednesday 17th June is the date that the UK gets its first £0 'pay monthly' contract. Well, that's not strictly true because 3 offered a similar deal - 3ToGo - when it launched in 2003, but let's put that aside for the moment. The new contract is called SIM ZERO and is being launched by 3, which already includes free Skype-to-Skype calls and free instant messaging on other tariffs. There's no 'line rental'; call charges are 20p per minute for standard calls, text messages are 10p each and data is 30p per MB. SIM ZERO has a one month minimum term with one month's notice to cancel. [Press release]
