Mobile security software market worth £1 billion in 2013

The market for mobile security client software – software installed on handsets – is expected to hit $1.6 billion (just under £1 billion) in 2013. That’s the message from communications market research firm Infonetics Research. Its new report says over 1.5 billion new smartphones will be shipped worldwide between 2008 and 2013, giving hackers plenty of potential new targets. The company reckons the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) leads the world in terms of smartphone shipments, while North America lads in mobile security adoption. [Press release]
