Marks & Spencer puts mobile barcodes on takeaway food

Data Matrix barcodeMarks & Spencer has launched a trial that’ll see Data Matrix barcodes placed on its ‘Food To Go’ freshly squeezed juices. (Data Matrix codes are square 2D-barcodes similar to QR codes). Customers with a compatible mobile phone who point their handset’s camera at the barcode will be taken to a mobile website showing product information and offering a discount off their next purchase.

The M&S ‘Food To Go’ mobile site has been built by mobile agency Incentivated. Squiggly Square is managing the codes. [Sources: NMA.co.uk; M&S mobile site]
