Yet more evidence that smartphone sales are increasing

The latest market research from The NPD Group says that smartphone sales in the USA for the second quarter of 2009 were up 47% year-on-year to 28% of total mobile purchases. However, ‘feature phones’ were still the most popular category, accounting for 72% of new handset sales – a drop of 5% since Q2 2008.

The LG enV2 and the Samsung Rant were the best selling feature phones, while the Apple iPhone 3G and the BlackBerry Curve were the top selling smartphones. NPD says total mobile phone sales in the USA were up 14% in Q2 2009. [Press release]
