Tesco Mobile ‘triple credit’ complaint upheld

Complaints about a poster, a radio ad and a TV ad for Tesco Mobile have been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority. The message of “Top-up £15 a month and we triple it to £45” was deemed to be misleading because existing Tesco Mobile customers wouldn’t benefit from the triple credit offer unless they changed tariff.

The advertising all referred to the new Tesco Mobile ‘Free Credit Tariff’. When upholding the complaint, the ASA considered that existing customers were likely to believe the offer of triple credit applied to the tariff they were currently on. [ASA adjudication]
