Telefonica to start testing 4G services with O2 UK

Telefonica, O2’s parent, says it’ll start testing ‘4G’ LTE mobile technology in the UK, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Brazil and Argentina. This follows the company’s demonstration of LTE in in Madrid earlier this year, when it carried out a VoIP call, a videocall and data downloads at transfer speeds of over 140 Mbps. The tests will last for six months and will help the company choose its 4G technology suppliers and plan its network strategy. [Press release (pdf)]
