Orange follows O2 by launching own-brand mobile recycling

A couple of weeks O2 UK launched its own online recycling service for mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and sat nav systems. It's called O2 Recycle and is available to anyone in the UK regardless of the mobile network they use. Users visit the dedicated web site, enter details of their product and request a pre-paid postage bag.

Now comes Orange UK with a different perspective. It’s offering an in-store recycling service called Recycle & Reward that lets people recycle old mobile phones, laptops and personal music players for cash. It’s also offering a ‘Copy and Keep’ scheme to help customers transfer multimedia content to new mobile handsets making it even easier to recycle old devices.

Recycle & Reward enables customers to find out the value of their old electronic goods in any Orange store and sends them a cheque within approximately 7 days. Copy and Keep is available free to all customers covered by Orange Care insurance or costs £6 to anyone else. [Press release]
