BBC Radio 1 sees 150-fold increase for picture messages

Last week's BBC Radio 1 Picture Messaging Day attracted the equivalent of five months’ worth of messages in just 24 hours. The UK's major networks agreed that MMS messages to 81199 would be free on Friday 11th December… and over 42,000 messages were received as a result. That's as many as Radio 1 would usually expect in five months (which suggests the radio station only receives around 280 picture messages on most days).

Listeners were invited to take pictures of their faces using their mobile phones and then send them to the BBC shortcode.
