eBay reports three-fold increase in mobile shopping this year

Online auction and retail site eBay says three times more people bought items via their mobile phones this Christmas than went mobile shopping in 2008. In fact, 1.5 million items were bought on eBay using mobile phones worldwide during the 'holiday season'. As a result, eBay buyers and sellers have generated over half a billion dollars of transactions via mobile throughout 2009, with an item being sold every two seconds via eBay's mobile applications.

eBay launched its mobile web site in 2007, adding an iPhone app in 2008. [eBay news room]
