Market analysis and consulting firm IDATE has forecast the number of subscribers expected to use mobile data via LTE networks. LTE – 'Long Term Evolution' – is seen by many as fourth-generation (4G) mobile technology.
The company says 13% of worldwide subscribers are expected to access LTE networks by the end of 2015. It's calculated that the number of LTE subscribers should grow from 27 million in 2012 to approaching 300 million at the end of 2015.
IDATE notes that the Global Suppliers Association reported 110 LTE network commitments in 48 countries at the end of May 2010; up to 22 LTE networks should be in service by the end of this year and up to 37 LTE networks should be in service by the end of 2012.
