No SMS means no international roaming for Apple iPad

The Times reports that UK owners of the 3G-equipped Apple iPad aren't able to use their mobile phone connections when they go abroad. It says EC rules mean that mobile networks are legally required to send customers a text message when they enter another country – and, because the iPad can't receive text messages, the ability to 'roam' on foreign mobile networks is not being allowed.
