Skyfire drops support for its Windows Mobile and Symbian web browsers

The free Skyfire browser will no longer be supported on Windows Mobile and Symbian devices after the end of this year.

Skyfire had previously restricted support for this version to within North America and Western Europe. It describes Skyfire version 1 – the version that runs on Windows Mobile and Symbian – as a legacy product using a ‘proxy browser’ approach that is no longer the company’s vision.

It’s now following a ‘hybrid’ route for Skyfire 2.0, which is currently available for the Apple iPhone and for Android devices. Skyfire 2.0 uses the device’s native browser with a cloud-based ‘booster engine’ for extra features. This approach recently enabled it to bring Flash-enabled videos to the iPhone.
