Sony plans Android tablets with PlayStation gaming

Sony Corporation has announced plans to introduce two Android-powered tablet devices from this autumn. The Sony Tablet S1 - both devices just have codenames at the moment - has a 9.4-inch display, while the Sony Tablet S2 has two folding 5.5-inch displays.

Both devices will run Android 3.0 and are WiFi and 3G/4G compatible.

Kunimasa Suzuki, Corporate Executive, SVP, and Deputy President of Consumer Products & Services Group, said “'Sony Tablet' delivers an entertainment experience where users can enjoy cloud-based services on-the-go at any time. We're aiming to create a new lifestyle by integrating consumer hardware, including 'Sony Tablet' with content and network.”

The company says users will be able to “immerse themselves in high quality first generation PlayStation titles” on the tablets. The S1 will also function as a remote control for Sony Bravia audio-visual devices in the home.
