Applications in Android Marketplace will soon exceed Apple App Store

Last week we reported that Distimo had forecast Google’s Android Marketplace overtaking Apple to become the world’s largest app store in around five months, based on the number of apps available.

research2guidance has just published its own predictions - and it puts a similar timeline on events, anticipating Android Market becoming the world’s biggest mobile content platform by August 2011.

It says Android growth rates are more than twice as high as those for Apple’s App Store, with Android adding 28,000 new apps in April while Apple’s App Store added just 11,000 apps. At this rate of growth, the Android Market will reach 425,000 apps in August - overtaking the Apple App Store.
