BT is cutting the cost of calling mobile phones

Ofcom’s recent reduction of mobile termination rates is bearing fruit at BT. The company is cutting the cost of landline-to-mobile telephone calls from 28th May.

Evening calls will fall from 7p per minute to 5.3p when ringing major UK mobile networks from a BT fixed line, which represents a 24% cut. Daytime calls are down 13% from 13p per minute to 11.3p.

BT led theTerminate the Rate campaign along with Three UK, campaigning to cut the termination charges that mobile networks were allowed to make.

John Petter, managing director of the Consumer unit at BT, said “Having campaigned for two years to get Ofcom to lower mobile termination rates, I am delighted to pass on the news that calls to mobile phones from a BT landline are to cost a great deal less. We are passing on Ofcom’s reduction and what’s more we’ll soon be telling customers how they can stop worrying about call charges from landlines to mobiles with a new, inclusive consumer calling package. Watch this space.”
