Appeal expected after ruling says HTC infringed on Apple patents

HTC has issued a statement following a judgement at the US International Trade Commission concerning its legal case with Apple.

In March 2010, Apple said HTC had infringed on ten of its patents; a judge has now ruled that HTC infringed on two patents. This is an ‘initial determination’ that - if affirmed at a hearing later this year - could see certain HTC products banned from US import... and could affect other Android devices as well.

Grace Lei, General Counsel of HTC, said “We are highly confident we have a strong case for the ITC appeals process and are fully prepared to defend ourselves using all means possible. We strongly believe we have alternate solutions in place for the issues raised by Apple. We look forward to resolving this case, so we can continue creating the most innovative mobile experiences for consumers.”

HTC also notes that Apple is infringing the patents of S3 Graphics, a company acquired by HTC earlier this month.
