Motorola Mobility Ventures invests in social networking start-up Shaker

MotorolaMotorola Mobility Ventures, the investment arm of Motorola Mobility, has invested in social networking start-up Shaker.

Israeli-based Shaker, which won the ‘Startup Battlefield’ competition at TechCrunch Disrupt last year, works with Facebook to allow people to meet based on mutual friends and shared interests. It’s currently only available in Israel, with a US launch planned within the next few weeks.

Shaker uses opt-in information from social network profiles to enable users to meet new and current friends in life-like online settings, such as bars and clubs.

Yonatan Maor, co-founder and CEO of Shaker, said “As more people start using social media sites on their smart phones, Motorola Mobility offers us exciting support and expertise to expand on all platforms. Motorola Mobility’s support will enable Shaker to offer an amazing experience across all devices.”
