Isis mobile wallet adds its first banking partners in the USA

Last week, the US-based Isis mobile commerce venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, announced its first banking partners. From this summer, customers with Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard credit, debit and prepaid cards will be able to add their card details to the Isis Mobile Wallet. The service will initially just be available in a limited number of locations before a US-wide rollout.

Isis had previously announced relationships with the Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express payment networks.

Stewart Holmes, senior director of mobile commerce strategy at Barclaycard US, said “We believe Isis is strongly positioned to bring the convenience, value and simplicity of mobile commerce to consumers. We’re excited to build this offering for customers and our card partners with Isis and look forward to shaping the future of payments.”

The Isis Mobile Wallet, which was launched at the end of 2010, lets consumers pay, redeem coupons and confirm ‘loyalty card’ details using NFC technology.

One of the most fiercely envisioned mobile phone technologies is mobile payments, or spending money on stuff using a smartphone app linked to a debit or credit card. The largest obstacle is the lack point-of-sale machines, though the upcoming Isis system has just scored a deal with POS machine distributors.
