Samsung prepares for record quarter as HTC profits fall

Samsung says it expects its quarterly operating profits for Q1 2012 to reach 5.8 trillion won (£3.2 billion), up from 2.95 trillion won a year ago. Revenue is expected to reach 45 trillion won.

The earnings guidance announcement was made ahead of Samsung’s formal quarterly results statement, which is due later this month.

Meanwhile HTC Corporation has released unaudited quarterly figures for the first three months of 2012. Revenue fell by almost 35% year-on-year to NT$67,790 million, with net income after tax dropping by 70% to NT$4,464 million (£95 million).
