Cisco stops work on the Cius tablet

Technology and network specialist Cisco says it’s stopped investing in the Cisco Cius tablet form factor and doesn’t plan any further enhancements for the current Cius device. The Android-powered tablet has apparently been overtaken by the ‘bring your own device’ trend, with companies enabling employees to use their own tablet devices rather than investing in a corporate product.

In a blog post announcing the decision, Cisco Senior Vice President OJ Winge said “Moving forward, we intend to double down on software offerings, like Jabber and WebEx, that provide the anytime, anywhere, and any device experiences. We will leverage key learnings and key collaboration experiences native to Cius in our other collaboration products. Experience matters, and Cisco is focused on empowering individual collaboration styles more effectively and securely, while providing the broadest choice of collaboration options based on preference, location, and device.”

We spoke to Marcus O’Sullivan of Cisco at Droidcon last year. You can listen to the interview (which starts at 18:20) via the built-in audio player on our website or by downloading the MP3 file.
