Microsoft uses Xbox to bring entertainment to mobile phones, tablets, PC and TV

Microsoft has revealed a new application that’ll bring entertainment from its Xbox gaming console to other devices. Xbox SmartGlass will launch later this year for Windows 8 devices and Windows Phone handsets.

For example, it’ll be possible to browse the web on your Xbox while using your mobile device as a remote control. Similarly, bonus features from TV shows could appear on your smartphone or tablet while you’re watching your television. In addition, Customers with Windows 8 tablets and laptops will be able to start watching a TV programme when on the move and then ‘hand over’ to their Xbox and large screen television at home.

Some of these Xbox SmartGlass features will require an Xbox LIVE subscription in addition to WiFi or mobile data connectivity.

Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, said “Xbox is on a mission to make the entertainment that you love even more amazing. With Xbox SmartGlass, we are lighting up entertainment across your phone, tablet, PC and TV in a completely new way. If you love to play games, watch TV and movies, surf the Web, or listen to music, there has never been a better time to be on Xbox.”

The company also confirmed that a music service called Xbox Music is planned for Xbox 360, Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices.
