Arqiva becomes one of the UK's biggest WiFi hotspot providers

Communications infrastructure company Arqiva has agreed to acquire UK-based WiFi operator Spectrum Interactive. The deal, which will enable Arqiva to accelerate the development of its wholesale mobile data business, is worth £23.4 million.

All employees of Spectrum Interactive are expected to join Arqiva.

John Cresswell, the CEO of Arqiva, said “The acquisition of Spectrum Interactive positions Arqiva as one of the UK’s largest Wi-Fi hotspot providers and uniquely we would be the only wholesale provider with no associated retail service. We are well placed to help define the Wi-Fi space for all UK landlords and business providers, allowing us to individually tailor services for our customers to meet the growing demand for data capacity.”

Spectrum currently offers 15,500 access points in over 2,100 locations including hotels, restaurants, leisure outlets, airports, motorway service areas and high streets.
