CTIA chooses former FCC commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker as its new CEO

Wireless communications trade organisation CTIA - The Wireless Association has named Meredith Attwell Baker as its new CEO. She’ll replace Steve Largent, who is retiring after more than a decade in the role.

Ms Baker was commissioner of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) until 2011, when she stepped down to work at NBC Universal.

Her appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of CTIA will take effect from 2nd June. It’s a return to the organisation for Ms Baker; she was director of congressional affairs from 1998 until 2000.

Meredith Attwell Baker said “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to use my experience in both the public and private sectors to help the vital and fast-growing wireless communications industry. The wireless industry has grown significantly over the past decade and now permeates every part of our lives from education, and health care to energy and business. CTIA should be in the center of discussions about how wireless is reshaping our economy, our society and our culture. I look forward to continuing CTIA’s long tradition of finding bipartisan solutions to ensure adequate spectrum availability and opportunities to unlock the next generation of investment and innovation.”
