Global mobile phone sales dropped almost 5% in Q4 2008

Research company Gartner says worldwide mobile phone sales dropped 4.6% year-on-year in the final quarter of 2008, hitting 314.7 million units, although overall year-on-year growth across 2008 was 6%; a total of 1.22 billion units. Nokia, Samsung and LG all increased their market share in 2008, while Motorola and Sony Ericsson lost ground compared with 2007. [Press release]
