Apple's UK appeal against iPad design ruling is rejected

The High Court in London has rejected Apple’s appeal against a ruling that Samsung hadn’t infringed its iPad design. Samsung won the original case in July with a judge deciding the Samsung Galaxy Tab range was “not as cool” as the Apple iPad’s appearance.

Part of the ruling involved Apple running advertisements saying that Samsung hadn’t copied its designs.

Mobile phone companies form new 4G joint venture to tackle TV interference

The UK’s ‘big four’ mobile phone operators - EE, Telefónica O2, Three and Vodafone - have formed a jointly-controlled company called Digital Mobile Spectrum.

It’ll help any households experiencing TV signal interference when 4G mobile services are introduced on the 800MHz frequency band.

International Telecommunication Union and World Health Organization start fighting disease with m-health

The International Telecommunication Union, which is an agency of the United Nations, and the World Health Organization have launched a new partnership to promote the use of mobile technology to combat certain diseases.

The m-health initiative will focus on using text messaging and mobile apps to help fight non-communicable diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and respiratory diseases.

Good Technology adds secure file sharing and instant messaging to its mobile collaboration solution

‘Bring your own device’ specialist Good Technology has added two new features to its mobile-based business collaboration solution. It follows the company’s acquisition of secure mobile collaboration provider Copiun last month.

Good Share will make it easier for employees to access business files securely via their mobile devices, while Good Connect is an encrypted instant messaging service.

Huawei leads the mobile broadband modem market... but have dongle sales peaked?

ABI Research has published new findings that show 49 million mobile broadband modems were shipped worldwide during the first half of 2012. Most were included in USB models, while others were ‘embedded’ in laptops or other consumer electronics devices.

Overall, 62% of shipments were USB modems
