Over 4 million cars in Europe have their own mobile device

A new research report from Berg Insight reckons that 4.3 million cars in Europe will have an on-board telematics device at the end of 2010. The main application for these mobile devices is stolen vehicle tracking, followed by automatic emergency calls, driver assistance and insurance use.

Wholesale Applications Community now has 57 members

The Wholesale Applications Community, a telecoms industry group that’s committed to building an open applications platform, has announced nine new members. Aepona, Camber Tech Inc (BVI) Limited, GClue, Gemalto, Infraware, KT Innotz, Sharp and Sony Ericsson have joined as associate members, while VimpelCom has joined as an operator member.

Monitise, Best Buy and Charles Dunstone create a mobile marketing and payments network

Mobile payment provider Monitise plc says it’s working with Best Buy Europe and Charles Dunstone to create a new project called the ‘Mobile Money Network’. It follows discussions between Monitise and The Carphone Warehouse last year.
