Over a third of Chinese mobile web users only ever access the internet on their phones

Mobile research company On Device Research has released a report that looks at the number of web users who only access the internet through their mobile phones.

While around 25% of UK mobile internet users don’t ever use a PC for web access, that figure rises to 38% for Chinese mobile web users. In rural areas of China, the figure is even higher, with 45% of rural Chinese mobile web users admitting to being mobile only.

Twitter acquires Posterous

Micro-blogging site Twitter has acquired micro-blogging site Posterous.

The Posterous Spaces photo-sharing site will continue to run, although both companies note in separate blog posts that “we’ll give users ample notice if we make any changes to the service”.

New Sony mobile phone promises touch-free navigation

Sony Mobile Communications has announced a new Android-powered smartphone. The Sony Xperia sola has a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 3.7-inch display and a 5 megapixel camera.

Notable features include NFC connectivity and what the company is calling ‘floating touch’ navigation.

New research says 92 million cars will have a smartphone connection by 2016

New cars will increasingly have the ability to integrate a smartphone with the vehicle, according to a new report from Juniper Research. It forecasts that 92 million vehicles will include technology to integrate the smartphone into the in-car ‘head unit’ by 2016.

The report follows mobile-related announcements from both Ford and Toyota during Mobile World Congress 2012.
