Everything Everywhere plans to cut 550 office staff

Everything Everywhere says it plans to cut 550 office jobs from its UK HQ and other support roles. There’ll be a three-month consultation period before the cuts take effect.

These cuts will affect 4% of staff, with contractors accounting for around a fifth of the losses.

Yahoo! launches Livestand iPad magazine

Livestand, the long-awaited ‘digital newsstand’ that was announced by Yahoo! in February, has finally launched on the Apple iPad.

It offers a combination of third-party content, social media information and Yahoo! services in an application that becomes more personalised as it’s used.

Half of US mobile phone owners have apps installed

If you pick up a mobile phone in the USA, there’s a 50% chance you’ll find an application on it. That’s the finding of the latest survey from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project.

In August this year, it found that 38% of US-based adult mobile phone users had downloaded an app - and, when you include people who’d bought phones with pre-loaded apps, that figure rises to 50%.

BlackBerry's BBM Music app leaves beta and goes live (but not in the UK)

BlackBerry’s BBM Music app has left beta in Canada, the United States and Australia. There’s still no news about UK availability or pricing, although RIM has confirmed the service is destined to arrive here.

BBM Music uses the BlackBerry Messenger service to let customers share music with friends.

Apple loses iPad design lawsuit in Spain

Spanish tablet computer producer Nuevas Tecnologías y Energías Catala, which is responsible for the NT-K range of Android devices, has successfully defended its products against Apple in court.

It’s now seeking damages from Apple.
