40% of roaming revenue will come from mobile data within five years

Juniper Research has published a report that predicts a 21% per year increase in mobile data roaming revenue between 2012 and 2017 as more and more people use data services when abroad.

Total mobile roaming revenue is expected to exceed $80 billion by 2017, with mobile data accounting for $35 billion. This year, total worldwide roaming revenue is expected to reach $46 billion.

New GSMA report shows how mobile communications and economic growth are linked

The GSMA and professional services firm Deloitte LLP have released a report that looks at the economic benefits of mobile telephone services.

It notes that an increase in mobile data use has led to an increase in the GDP per capita growth rate, as has a move from 2G to 3G service.

HP announces annual results and launches investigation into Autonomy acquisition

HP has announced financial results for its financial year, which ended on 31st October 2012. Net revenue was down 5% year-on-year to $120.4 billion (£75.6 billion), with the company making a $12.7 billion loss. Last year, HP made $7.1bn profit.

The company noted that it had recorded a one-off charge of approximately $8.8 billion related to Autonomy in the fourth quarter.
