HP plans to deliver webOS as open source by September 2012

HP has committed to making its webOS source code available under an open source licence by September.

It’s starting by releasing version 2.0 of the Enyo developer tool for webOS, with other individual elements due to be released in the next few months.

Everything Everywhere and BT Wholesale extend 4G trial in Cornwall

Everything Everywhere and BT Wholesale have announced an extension to their trial of 4G LTE mobile broadband in Cornwall.

The trial, which has been running in the area around St. Newlyn East in Cornwall since October 2011, has been given Ofcom approval to continue until the end of June 2012.

Motorola makes patent claim against Apple iPhone 4S

Motorola Mobility, which is currently in the process of being acquired by Google, has launched a legal case against Apple’s iPhone in the USA.

It’s seeking an injunction against the iPhone 4S and the Apple iCloud based on six Motorola patents.

LG announces one million sales of 4G Optimus LTE smartphone

LG Electronics says it’s sold more than one million units of its Optimus LTE smartphone.

The 4G handset launched in South Korea last October and sold 600,000 units there in the first three months.

Nokia announces 1.5 billion Series 40 mobile phone sales

Nokia has announced what it describes as “one of the most significant milestones in its history” with the sale of its 1.5 billionth mobile phone using the Series 40 operating system.

The device - a Nokia Asha 303 - was sold in Brazil.
