Vodafone has announced a competition to find the best (most innovative and useful) mobile applications or ‘widgets’. There’s a total prize fund of one million Euro, with €100,000 available for the overall winner. Firstly, there’ll be eight country-wide heats in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece. The winner in each country will receive €25,000 and will be entered into the pan-European final. The eight finalists will then face a public vote, with the overall winner being given €75,000. And when it’s finished, Vodafone says it’ll do the same next year.
Vodafone has announced Vodafone 360, an online aggregator that puts all your friends, web communities, entertainment and personal favourites together on your phone or PC. For example, it combines contacts from compatible mobile phones with friends on Facebook, Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk to create a single address book called Vodafone People.
There’s also going to be an app store called the Vodafone Shop.
