Microsoft started last week with news of an own-brand rival to the Apple iPad. The new Windows-based Microsoft Surface tablets will start to appear later this year, although full details of the specifications – including whether or not there’ll be cellular connectivity – remain unconfirmed.

Samsung has responded to online posts about a Samsung Galaxy SIII that appears to have suffered some heat-related damage.

In a statement on its Samsung Tomorrow blog, the company says it will begin investigating as soon as it receives the phone and will provide further details when the investigation is complete.

ExclusiveTwitter recovers after yesterday's glitch

Social networking site Twitter is back after a problem that took the web service offline for over an hour yesterday afternoon (5pm BST). In addition to the web issue, mobile Twitter clients weren’t showing new Tweets.

The company described the problem as having been caused by a ‘cascading bug’ in one of its infrastructure components. When this was discovered, Twitter’s software was rolled back to a previous stable version.

The Amazon Appstore, a marketplace for US-based customers to download Android apps, is coming to the UK this summer. Customers in Germany, France, Italy and Spain will also be able to buy and download apps from the app store, which offers a free app every day.

Developers are now being invited to submit apps for distribution.
