ExclusiveNokia announces closure of Ovi Share

Last year Nokia announced plans to rebrand its ‘Ovi’ services as ‘Nokia’. At the time it said the services wouldn’t be disrupted, although the company has now revealed plans to discontinue its Ovi Share service.

Web uploads to Ovi Share will be blocked from 13th March, with customers being given until 30th May to download all their content. Ovi Share will be discontinued from 31st May 2012.

ExclusiveEuropean Parliament Industry Committee wants lower roaming rates

The European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee says it wants to see wholesale roaming service suppliers cutting prices below the EU price cap. It’s approved legislation that would allow consumers to buy roaming services separately from their ‘home’ mobile service.

The new rules would also set limits on retail data roaming charges and would further reduce roaming price caps for calls and SMS text messages.

Apple says more than 25 billion apps have now been downloaded from its App Store.

The 25 billionth app was downloaded from China by Chunli Fu, who will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card as a reward.

ExclusiveGSMA reveals 'joyn' as new brand for rich communication services

The GSMA made a series of announcements about Rich Communication Services at last week’s Mobile World Congress, including the creation of a new consumer-facing brand called joyn.

Rich Communication Services - also referred to as Rich Communication Suite, Rich Communications and RCS - refers to a combination of voice and messaging services. For example, a customer could share photos or documents while making a voice call.
