Brightstar completes its acquisition of 20:20 Mobile and confirms the launch of 'Brightstar 20:20'

Mobile technology distributor Brightstar says it’s completed its acquisition of European rival 20:20 Mobile. 20:20 was originally part of the Caudwell Group, along with Phones 4U.

Brightstar announced its plans last December after months of industry speculation.

Carphone Warehouse to run Samsung-branded mobile phone shops across Europe

Samsung Electronics says it’s signed a ‘preferred partner’ agreement that’ll see Carphone Warehouse operating over 60 Samsung stand-alone stores across Europe.

It follows the opening of three Carphone Warehouse-run Samsung stores in Spain last year.

Almost half of all roaming revenue is expected to come from data by 2018

Operator revenue from mobile data roaming is expected to reach $42 billion (£25.5 billion) by 2018, according to a new report from Juniper Research. That means data will generate 47% of all mobile roaming revenue, compared to an estimated 36% last year.

This increase will be driven by increasing data usage, helped by customers moving to 4G and enjoying faster connections.

Europe gets closer to introducing a 'universal' mobile phone charger

We’re getting closer to seeing a ‘universal’ mobile phone charger that’ll work on all devices.

Last week MEPs and the EU’s Council of Ministers agreed a draft directive that would compel manufacturers to produce handsets that were compatible with a common battery charging plug and socket.

A Happy Tranquil Christmas for HTC?

HTC experienced a bit of Christmas cheer last week when the threat of a sales injunction against the HTC One mini smartphone and a number of other devices was lifted. Nokia had previously won a patent-related court case against HTC but it seems that a sales ban was deemed too harsh a penalty.
