Ofcom publishes a report on UK fixed-line and mobile broadband progress

Ofcom has published a report that compares the coverage, take-up, usage, price and choice of fixed and mobile broadband services in the UK with services available in other European countries.

It’s known as the European Broadband Scorecard and measures progress towards the UK government’s ambition that the UK should have the ‘best superfast broadband network’ (usually defined as faster than 30Mbps) of any major European country by 2015.

Smartphones are about to get smarter - in many different ways

At Mobile World Congress 2012 I spent quite a bit of time talking about quad-core smartphones. The year before had seen a fair amount of 3D screen technology. Back in 2010 it was the growth of apps. This year I wasn’t hearing so much about mobile device innovation.

LG sells more than 10 million 4G LTE smartphones worldwide

In August last year LG Electronics announced it had sold more than five million 4G LTE smartphones worldwide - and just over six months later it’s doubled that figure.

The company says it’s now sold more than 10 million LTE smartphones, having started selling its devices in 2011.

We’re back from Mobile World Congress – and what a show it was. Located at a new site that saw more visitors than ever before, the show had everything… except any particularly obvious theme from hardware manufacturers. Last year was the year of the quad-core smartphone, this year there was plenty of incremental innovation but nothing truly startling.

A record 72,000 people visited the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2013

Figures from the GSMA reveal that more than 72,000 delegates, exhibitors, contractors and media representatives attended Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year.

That’s an 8% increase on last year’s total, setting a new record.
