Dame Patricia Hodgson has been announced by the government as the next chair of UK communications regulator Ofcom.
Ofcom’s current chair, Colette Bowe, will step down at the end of March 2014 after serving her five-year term in the role.

Ofcom has published the results of a survey that looked at satisfaction with the customer service provided by landline, broadband, mobile and pay TV providers.
The most notable year-on-year improvements were seen in the mobile and pay TV markets: customer satisfaction rose from 67% in 2012 to 75% in 2013 for mobile operators (mainly driven by higher satisfaction from Vodafone customers).

A Happy Tranquil Christmas for HTC?

HTC experienced a bit of Christmas cheer last week when the threat of a sales injunction against the HTC One mini smartphone and a number of other devices was lifted. Nokia had previously won a patent-related court case against HTC but it seems that a sales ban was deemed too harsh a penalty.

Quarterly report reveals telecoms and pay TV complaints
Ofcom has published its latest quarterly report, which shows details of the amount of complaints it’s received about major telecoms and pay TV providers.
This new report covers the period from July to September 2013.

New Ofcom research shows that UK consumers are benefiting from lower-priced communications services than people in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the USA.
These findings form part of Ofcom’s ninth International Communications Market Report.
