Brian Krzanich to become new CEO of Intel

Renée James elected as company president

Intel Corporation says its board of directors has elected current COO Brian Krzanich as the company’s next chief executive officer. He’ll replace Paul Otellini, who announced plans for his retirement last year.

The board of directors also elected Renée James to be president of Intel. She previously chaired the company’s software subsidiaries and is a director of both Vodafone Group and VMware.

HTC confirms profit drop in quarterly results

HTC has confirmed its financial results for the first quarter of 2013, having released unaudited results last month.

Revenue was NT$42.8 billion (£929 million), while net income was NT$85 million (£1.85 million). That’s a 98% year-on-year drop in profit.

Mobile boarding passes being trialled by easyJet in the UK

UK airline easyJet is trialling mobile boarding passes for flights from Stansted, Southend, Manchester, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Nice airports.

Passengers can download their boarding pass to the easyJet app on iPhones or Android devices, with a mobile web app due to be added later this year.

Facebook says 30% of its advertising revenue now comes from mobile traffic

Facebook has reported financial results for the first quarter of 2013.

The total number of monthly active users increased by 23% year-on-year to 1.11 billion people, while mobile monthly active users were up 54% year-on-year to 751 million.

Virgin Media launches new 'unlimited' mobile tariff

Virgin Media has revealed a new ‘unlimited’ mobile phone tariff that offers unlimited calls to 0870, 0800, 0845 and 0808 numbers as well as unlimited mobile data, text messages and UK calls.

The package, which also includes a mid-range smartphone with insurance, is called VIP and is priced from £26 monthly for customers who have Virgin Media’s broadband, TV or home phone service. Other customers will pay £31 per month for the two-year minimum term contract.
